General English courses are designed to give you the communicative confidence and competence to deal with everyday situations in English. This is the perfect choice if you want to learn English in Malta, combining your language course with a relaxing, fun-filled holiday.
In your lessons you will learn conversational skills, grammar structures and vocabulary, which will enable you to communicate effectively in a variety of social situations using the English language.
The IH Malta General English courses are very popular because they are wide-ranging in topics and interesting, focusing on current uses of English in the modern world. They are designed to provide an enjoyable way of accelerating your English through a highly communicative approach that includes all the necessary skills for you to confidently speak in English in any circumstance.
You will receive a firm foundation in the areas of grammar and vocabulary, but we don’t stop there; we want you to use the language freely and to enjoy doing so. Therefore, the General English courses have a strong emphasis on speaking and listening using role-plays, enjoyable activities, structured and free speaking. Throughout your course you will be exposed to different accents within the English-speaking world, giving you the necessary listening skills as preparation for you to converse with anyone in English. If you wish to go one step further and have an even greater exposure to the language and to maximize practice time you can also check out the Intensive courses (IE30).

Students with limited time for studying English may choose to enrol for one session per day of either:
General English or fluency. This course offers you the perfect balance between learning and free time. With only 10 lessons per week, this course provides the most flexibility to fit around your other commitments - whether that's your work, your family, or simply exploring Malta's famous culture.
While all our courses allow for sufficient leisure time to enjoy and explore Malta, you can opt to take our Lite course which offers the further flexibility of having 10 lessons per week (GE10) instead of 20 (GE20), thereby providing you the time to explore Malta and appreciate all the wonders the islands have to offer. Your lessons will be of an hour and a half duration, of either General English or fluency lessons with a total 7.5 hours of lessons per week.
With this reduced course you will find sufficient time to fit around your other commitments - whether that's your work, your family, or simply exploring the richness of Malta's culture. This course is aimed at those who wish to sharpen their skills and keep in touch with the language but also have other priorities in Malta. If you wish to achieve a faster pace of learning you should opt for the GE20 course.
