International House Malta was proud to take part in the European Week for Waste Reduction, which took place from the 16th till the 24th of November, furthering the schools vision of going green. European Week for Waste Reduction organised by WasteServ Malta Ltd., aimed to raise awareness about the importance of waste reduction and encourage European citizens to change their behaviour in respect of their consumption and production patterns. For IH Malta this included the reduction of waste at the source and recycling/re-reusing its consumed waste.
Providing free water to all our students and staff at IH Malta, disposable cups used were collected over a several week period, resulting in a large average of cups disposed of per year by the school. For EWWR we have eliminated the use of disposable cups, providing our students with reusable collapsible travel cups. It is now the school’s policy that all s taff and students will be provided with their own cups on entering IH Malta’s doors. We then used the plastic cups to create various decorations for the student’s resource room. The school also recycled old school brochures and using rough paper, created note pads for the students’ to take notes on during class. These were distributed to all the students attending classes and anyone who wanted to make use of them that week to raise awareness.
IH Malta would like to thank all those involved in making this endeavor the success that it was.
